Ranking College Football’s Top Recruiting Programs and The Money These Programs Generate
College football’s top programs are currently in two wars right now. The first is for National Championship supremacy, and the second is a recruiting battle for the nation’s top high school players.
It’s not a surprise that Alabama is atop the list. The eye-popping numbers are not who is recruited but the money generated. It takes just 20 – 30 college football teams to create over a billion dollars in revenue. Texas sits at the top with a whopping $92,000,000/ year. This number does not account for restaurants near the campus and other off-site monies, so more than likely, these numbers are slightly lower than reality.

Recruiting and the Money – Should Parents pay for College Recruiting Service?
Absolutely not. That is why we provide parents with the information to DIY or do it yourself. We believe in helping parents and athletes take control of their athletic careers. Paying for someone to do it for you may help if you get the scholarships of your choice, but you lose insight and the valuable lessons that will be needed in the long haul to fuel an actual athletic career. We believe in provided value along the entire recruitment process, such as getting a reliable athletic evaluation, assistance with mental coaching, developing a plan to perform well at the NFL/NBA combines, and other vital decisions that will need to be made along the way. Parents do not need to pay for recruitment services, but most likely for assistance through the entire process of youth sports to elite level professional sports.
Recommendations from college coaches:
The best coaches in college say the only types of recruiting services they trust are ones they research, and they pay for. All coaches that are serious about recruiting will watch film versus trusting ranking and rating sites.
The best advice for young football players is to practice, prepare, play well, and record a solid video highlight tape that shows off your skill, talent, and positivity. All athletes from every sport will have adequate film, so parents and athletes should not have to pay for an outside agency for college coaches to see the film. This is one of the reasons we allow athletes to create profiles for free, and additionally, we provide a central location for scouts to look at an athlete’s data and measurable for no cost.
Athlete Star Rating System
In regards to ranking and rating sites, Smith said, “They don’t give stars for how hard the athlete works, what type of dedication they have, the teammate they are, how committed they are to excellence, or how they will progress. But they can give stars for what high school the athlete attended, who they are connected to, what scout camp they attended. This information can help, but it does not tell the whole story of who truly is a 3, 4, 5-star recruit. The reality is they often cannot see heart, dedication, work ethic, focus, and a winning attitude on film. You must get up close, and often even that is not enough to know who the player is. Success must be measured in the daily routine maintained over a long period of time, not a highlight reel of success snapshots. The goal for an athlete or parent is to convey not only the athletic ability but also the intangible characteristics that can separate the athlete from the pack.”
Best Advice to Win Recruiting for College Football
Start the process today. Take a look at the college football’s top recruiting programs and the money these programs generate, and it should give you a clear understanding that college football is indeed a business. So for you to maximize your athletic gifts, you must approach this business much like you would for a job interview. You will need to research the schools, their athletic programs, the head coaches’ background, and the campus environments. This in-depth evaluation will give you a better understanding of how you should present yourself to the college program. Don’t get hesitant. Sometimes its as simple as sending your video in with measurable, but for stronger programs, they will want to know more about you.
The best advice to a young athlete looking to get recruited is not to focus on the money a program brings in or how popular they are, but preferably the athletic program itself, and the parent should focus on how that program fits their son or daughter. Focus on finding the right program for your personality, academic goals, social likes and dislikes, as well as the success of the college football program. My advice is get started today. Put together a one-sheet that has your size, measurables, 40 times, vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, along with an appropriate amount of film. If you need help, don’t hesitate to contact us. Or consider picking up our “Complete Guide to Athletic Success,” which comes with a one-on-one phone consultation to help you get on the right track.
